Frequently Asked Questions
What is Family Mediation?
Family Mediation is a confidential process in which a trained impartial mediator helps a couple to examine and consider any issues that they may wish to resolve in the context of separation or divorce and to try to reach mutually acceptable terms for settling those issues.
How do we get started?
Starting the process is quite easy - simply contact Letchers Mediation service and we will help you. Alternatively, you may complete the referral form and send it to us.
What will it cost?
The costs of the service are detailed here.
Will I get forced into decisions?
The mediation process helps to ensure that neither party is forced into any decisions or commitments they do not wish to make. The emphasis is on mutual agreement.
Will my solicitor be involved?
Solicitors do not usually attend mediation meetings; but in some circumstances, if both parties agree, they may be invited to do so.
Solicitors may also advise their clients between meetings. Whether this is required will usually be discussed in the mediation.
Is the process confidential?
All the Mediation sessions are confidential unless it appears that there are children at risk. Full details are contained in the Agreement to Mediate.
Do our children get a say?
In certain circumstances, it may be possible for children to be included in the mediation process.
