Family Mediation Service
What is mediation?

Family mediation is a confidential process in which a trained impartial mediator helps a couple to examine and consider any issues that they may wish to resolve in the context of separation or divorce and to try to reach mutually acceptable terms for settling those issues.
Mediation provides a supportive, professional forum to help you deal with all issues arising on separation and divorce. This may include the practicalities of separation; the future of the relationship and where appropriate the question of divorce; arrangements for children; housing, property and capital adjustments; maintenance and finance generally; and any other issues which either party may wish to raise.

Why should you choose mediation?

Mediation is the effective modern way to resolve your problems.
It imposes much less strain on those involved and is less harmful to relationships.
All your decisions are reached by negotiation rather than argument, and in a completely confidential way.
Mediation is a much quicker and cheaper way of solving problems as opposed to going through the courts.

How does mediation work?

The whole mediation process is under the control of the couple involved. The Mediator is simply there to help you reach a mutually acceptable agreement.

  • A 'referal form' is completed and sent to the Mediator.
  • The Mediator will then arrange an initial meeting with you and your partner.
  • Your eligibility for free mediation will be assessed.
  • You both set your agendas
  • You may have as many mediation sessions as you need in order to reach an agreement.
